I loved The Last Dragonlord and I loved this sequel. I would recommend it for those who enjoyed the first book! A Dragon is trapped overseas in another country and the Dragonlords must do what they can to help. The main characters of Mauryanna and Linden are still around,, but this time they're partnered with Mauryanna's cousin, Lledd and her Soultwin, and some new characters on along the way.

Dragon and Phoenix Dragonlord Joanne Bertin 9780812545425 Books Reviews

The first time I read this book I loved it. I read it many years ago and was waiting on the third book. I purchased it so that I could refresh my memory and events. I really liked this book. So now I am off to the next book in the series. Joanne Bertin did an awesome job. Hope there is a fourth.
My grandson, 12, reads on a college level and he loved the book. We picked up the last in the series for him. He enjoyed it so much he asked for the other two, even knowing the ending. Joanne Bertin knows how to weave a great fantasy story. My sister-in-law plans on purchasing for her grandson on my grandson's recommendation.
As I really enjoyed the author's debut novel, "The Last Dragonlord", I eagerly looked forward to this next in what is sure to be a series of books. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This sequel was strictly average. It has some interesting bits, and some exciting bits, but it never quite comes together. There is a lot of material that never really goes anywhere, and yet I still never got a good feel for the picture the author was painting. I think the worst part is that I really get the feeling that, somewhere inside "Dragon and Phoenix", there is a smaller, much better story struggling to get out.
Nice follow up but storyline was strained. Needed a lot more volume to make this ambitious plot really come to life.
One of my first fantasy novels. The author takes you into this great story and world of were dragons. I remember reading this in high school, and it was an amazing escape. The characters will stay with you, making you pick this book up to read through the years.
This book picks up where the other one left off a few months after the first, the Last Dragonlord.
This book includes a new land, Jehanglan, the land of the phoenix.
Some of the book is about Mauryanna, a new dragonlord, who cannot Change without horrible pain. Her dragon half is almost intent on smothering her at times.
The story also revolves mysteriously around two mystical beings that have been held for centuries against their will. A dragon and a phoenix. But why? And to what end?
That alone, I leave for the readers to discover.
The story is a little more complex than her first book, with a new land and new names to keep up with. But even still, it's a book you don't want to end. And when it does, you want to know more.
The writer is in the middle of her third book, Bard's Oath. A book I am anxiously awaiting for. As I want to see what happens next in Dragonskeep!
This is my second time reading this series and I'm still impressed with the world building and character development. I highly recommend this series to any fantasy reader. Joanne Bertin creates stunning plots and settings. You fall in love with the entire cast, not just the POV characters.

The only negative I have about the edition is the glaring typos. This edition needs to be looked through and fixed.

Regardless, if you enjoy fantasy and dragons then this is a series you need to read.
